Revelations that State Department "contract employees" were looking at the passport files of Sen. Barack Obama raise so many questions.
Contract employees? Who benefits? What is the company and its ties to the Republican party? We know from the Iraq war and Hurricane Katrina that billions have been poured into politically connected private firms, many through no-bid contracts, all lacking proper oversight. And the deeper issue is why so much that should be done by impartial government employees is being farmed out for profit.
I’m not comforted that Clinton and McCain were also snooped on. Obama is the candidate who must be taken out. He’s the one being painted as too foreign, too Hussein, too comforting to terrorists. In reality, he’s the candidate who is most threatening to the community of interests that rule now. Maybe all three were really victims. But maybe the other two files are mere cover.
UPDATES: The contractor has been identified. Secretary Rice promises this will be investigated by the department’s inspector general. Unfortunately the job is unfilled following the scandal over Blackwater’s murderous ways and the infamous Baghdad embassy mess.
