Too good to pass up is mentioning an ad I saw online for the Border Patrol. One screen says, "Who we are" and shows three Anglo-looking men in paramilitary gear. Then we see, "Who we protect," followed by a photo of a man and woman kissing a baby — all very pale Anglos. A new America, ready to elect an African-American president?

This is an incredibly ignorant and offensive post. Hispanic Americans are giving their lives in service while you mock the institution they work for as racist based on a a single ad. Here’s a link to a story that illustrates the stupidity of your assumptions.

Try living in reality, not your dark paranoid fantasy land of conspiracies and racist law enforcement agencies, you moron.
Either Bill works for the Border Patrol’s PR agency, or he needs a stat infusion of the capacity to comprehend irony. Everybody knows Latinos make up a share of Border Patrol agents, and the agency should certainly be recruiting fluent Spanish speakers. Moreover, America is an ever more diverse nation, with the largest minority Latino CITIZENS. But the ad shows all Anglos. The ad is an insult to the Latinos working for the Border Patrol, the ones they would hope to recruit AND the Latino CITIZENS they are supposed to protect, too. But the Republicans in charge are so tone-deaf, they put out an ad like this.
I guess those with delicate sensibilities will find these images more to their liking:

I suspect progressive caucasians who would never consider working for the Border Patrol are much more likely to be insulted/offended/outraged by the original ad than actual latinos interested in a law enforcement career.
I took a look at the ad and am still amazed that anyone could tell that the “models” used were from England or of English ancestry! Oh yeah, all Caucasians are “Anglo” just like all Hispanics are “Mexican”! I feel better knowing I can stereotype with words, opens up a World of opportunity!
Old-time Southwesterners use “Anglo” as short-hand for all white non-Latinos. Welcome to the Southwest.
